A few important things must be considered after a tooth extraction procedure.
Here are some of the dos and don’ts:
Dos:
– Take your prescribed pain medications as instructed by your dentist to reduce discomfort.
– Follow your dentist’s instructions for aftercare.
– Use an ice pack to reduce swelling and decrease pain.
– Rinse your mouth with salt water to prevent infection.
– Eat soft foods such as yoghurt, eggs, soups, mashed potatoes, and other soft foods that do not require chewing.
Don’ts:
– Do not smoke for at least 24 hours after the procedure as it slows the healing process.
– Avoid vigorous activities and exercise until it is safe to do so per the dentist’s advice.
– Do not drink from a bottle or use straw, as the sucking motion can dislodge the blood clot.
– Do not eat or drink hot, crunchy, sharp, hard, spicy, or acidic foods.
– Do not poke around with your tongue to feel the extraction site.
